Product Description

• Most trusted name in potassium supplement for pets • Supplies life-sustaining potassium, critical for proper fluid balance in CKD cats and dogs • Renal K+ Gel also includes a range of B vitamins CKD pets are deficient in • 188 doses in Renal K+ Powder The Vetoquinol Renal K+ is the Gold Standard potassium supplement for cats and dogs. Check out our other listings for the PHS K-Plus if you’re interested in a more affordable alternative. When will my pet need potassium supplementation? In terms of test results, the first signs of chronic kidney disease (CKD) in a dog or cat are elevated creatinine and BUN. Soon enough, your pet will also have elevated phosphate. With faltering kidneys and these toxins in the blood, your pet will be drinking more and feeling generally tired. As CKD progresses, your pet will also develop a potassium deficiency – check the test results for K or potassium. This is a vital mineral that regulates fluid balance, blood pressure and communication between the nervous system and individual nerves and muscles. In the later stages of CKD, giving your pet a potassium supplement may prevent high blood pressure and edema in the extremities (swollen limbs from fluid retention). In this regard, no other brand is as proven as Vetoquinol, which has clinically tested and most frequently prescribed products for all of the above: Azodyl, Epakitin and Renal K+. Of course, this listing is for the Renal K+ Gel and Powder. Should I choose the Gel or the Powder? Each dose delivers 85.5mg of potassium. Renal K+ Gel contains 60 doses and Powder 188 doses, so the Powder is more economical on a per dose basis. But the Gel is easier to feed and contains the most critical B vitamins that CKD pets are always low in. Rather than giving your pet separate supplements for folic acid, thiamine, biotin, niacin, riboflavin and such, you can just give the Vetoquinol Renal K+ Gel. It tastes like sweetened maple syrup so all pets will eat it. Put some of the gel on your pet’s paw and watch him/her lick it all up eagerly. In contrast, the Powder is designed to be added to food, which can be a problem if your pet is refusing to eat – this can happen in later stages of CKD when your pet needs potassium the most. Please send us any questions you might have. We’ll add more to this description later. Latest 2023 best-by date for both Renal K+ Gel and Powder.
