Level 1 Lessons Level One (46 pages) may be used by students who have completed the Primer Level, or as a first book for beginners age 11 to 13. It begins with a review of Primer Level concepts, then introduces key signatures and I and V7 chords for C, F and G Major. Playing is all done in 5-finger positions, but includes position changes within pieces. New signs and terms include crescendo and diminuendo, mp and mf, 8va higher and lower, accent, natural sign, and dotted quarter. Damper pedal is introduced at page 38. Students will also learn how to transpose. Level 2 Lessons Level Two begins with opening the hand out of the 5-finger position to play intervals of 6th and 7th. Other new concepts include half and whole step, 6/8 time signature, changing Major into minor, and Sonatina form. Students will learn to play scales, primary chords, chord progressions, and music in the keys of C, G, F, D, A and E Major. Level 3 Lessons Level Three introduces various styles of broken chord accompaniments, including the waltz bass and Alberti bass patterns. Minor key signatures are introduced and students will play scales, chords and music in A, D, E and G minor. B-flat Major is also introduced. Other important new skills include playing chromatic scales, triads and inversions, octaves and overlapping pedal technique. The music in this book emphasizes classical literature with works by Telemann, J.C. Bach, L. Mozart, Haydn, Diabelli, Hook, Gurlitt, Schytte and Salutrinskaya. In addtion to a review of Sonatina form, students will also learn about binary and ternary form. Level 4 Lessons Level Four begins with a review of triads and inversions, followed by the introduction of V7 chords and inversions. New concepts include 2/2 and 3/8 time signatures, augmented and diminished triads, sixteenth notes, dotted eight notes and syncopation. Multi-key reading continues with learning scales, chords and music in E-flat, A-flat, D-flat, G-flat and B Major.
