This test reproduces the average conditions of a downpour. The fabric of this jacket is water repellent, i.e. water runs off its surface without being absorbed. As a result, the fabric does not soak up water and stays light and breathable. Fabric is made water repellent by applying a treatment to its outer surface. What's more, we have waterproofed the main seams, those most exposed to the rain. How to maintain the impermeability of your jacket over time In order to maintain long-term waterproofing, we advise you to regularly reactivate the water repellence of the fabric. We recommend doing this every three washes, or after using it in the rain a dozen times. The waterproof property is easily reactivated by warming the fabric: either in your tumble dryer or with a hair dryer, for example, for a relatively short period of time. If you are washing it, it must be thoroughly rinsed. You will find all our advice in the care instructions Measurement of the waterproof rating is expressed in mm or schmerber The resistance of a fabric is measured by the pressure of a water column expressed in mm (test based on the ISO 811 standard). The higher the pressure, the more waterproof the fabric. A component with a 2000 mm waterproof rating can therefore withstand the pressure of a 2000 mm column of water. Breathability of the component To find out whether a fabric is breathable, we measure its evaporative resistance (RET) using a test based on the ISO 11092 standard. The lower the fabric's resistance, the more water vapour generated by physical activity evaporates, and the higher its breathability. RET < 9 = extremely breathable fabric 9 < RET < 12 = very breathable fabric 12 < RET < 20 = breathable fabric RET > 20 = fabric with little or no breathability How to choose your waterproof jacket based on what sports you are doing and the effort expended When doing sports, the extent to which we perspire depends on the intensity or duration of the effort. If the fabric’s breathability is not suitable for the type of activity you are doing, vapour from perspiration condenses inside the jacket. You feel damp inside the jacket: this is vapour from condensation of sweat, rather than the rain getting inside. You need to choose a rain jacket according to your type of physical activity. This jacket is designed for a two-hour hike at a pace of 5 km/hr. Our impact on the environment On a scale from A to E, this jacket scored A. The environmental impacts of our products are calculated over their entire life cycle. A score is given to each product in order to identify the most eco-friendly products within a particular product line (T-shirts, trousers, backpacks). Decathlon is voluntarily taking action in this environmental labelling. For more information, go to: https://youtu.be/8t63KkRwn_8 Towards more environmentally friendly materials and dyeing processes Bulk dyeing consists of incorporating the pigments during the manufacture of the yarn. This reduces the environmental impact of water-related dyeing (consumption & pollution). Additional recommended products To also protect your lower body and have a complete suit that is very effective in protecting you from wind and downpours, we recommend the Raincut over-trousers. From 2019 onwards we will also start using a more eco-friendly dyeing process for these over-trousers! Guarantee Our hiking jackets are guaranteed for 2 years. Our commitment? To offer you long-lasting products that you can use on all your country walks. Because the products we hold most dear are those that have enjoyed, and continue to enjoy, success!
